What is Personal hygiene and Why is Important?

Posted on January 26, 2023 by admin

Good personal hygiene is one of the best ways to protect you from getting gastro or infectious diseases such as colds and flu. Washing your hands with soap removes germs that can make you ill. Maintaining good personal hygiene will also help prevent you from spreading diseases to other people.

Farmamy is an online pharmacy (Farmamy è una farmacia online) where you can get all types of Hygiene Products which you need.

Personal hygiene includes:

  • Cleaning your body every day
  • Washing your hands with soap after going to the toilet
  • Brushing your teeth twice a day
  • Covering your mouth and nose with a tissue (or your sleeve) when sneezing or coughing
  • Washing your hands after handling pets and other animals
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water or alcohol-based hand sanitizers
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth
  • Clean and disinfect surfaces you use often such as bench tops, desks and doorknobs
  • Clean and disinfect objects you use often such as mobile phones, keys, wallets and work passes
  • Increase the amount of fresh air by opening windows or changing air conditioning

Why is personal hygiene important?

Personal hygiene is vital because it helps prevent you and your children from getting or spreading germs and infectious diseases. The bacteria that cause many diseases can be spread by touching other people, getting fecal matter on your hands, handling contaminated food, and touching dirty surfaces and objects.

Conditions that can develop with poor personal hygiene include:

  • COVID-19 and other infectious diseases
  • diarrhea, especially gastroenteritis
  • Respiratory infections such as colds and flu
  • staphylococcal infection
  • Worm-related conditions such as B. nematode
  • scabies
  • Trachoma, eye infection leading to blindness
  • ringworm or athlete’s foot
  • caries

Wash the Body

Try to bath or shower daily. Wash your armpits, genitals, and anus thoroughly. Keeping it clean prevents skin irritation and removes odor-causing bacteria. Wash with soap, shower gel, or mild shower gel. Soap removes more bacteria, but you may need to wash sensitive body parts with plain or salt water. If tap water is not available or is in short supply, clean yourself with a clean, damp cloth or sponge.

Wash hands

Wash your hands thoroughly for at least 20 seconds to avoid nausea.

  • Wet your hands with water.
  • Apply enough soap to cover the entire surface of your hands. Rub your palms together.
  • Clean between your fingers and the backs of your hands.
  • If you have a scrubbing brush, use it to clean dirty nails.
  • Rinse your hands, preferably with clean running water.
  • Dry your hands with a clean towel.
  • Use a towel to close the faucet.

You can also use hand sanitizer. Use enough products to cover all surfaces of your hands. Rub your palms, the backs of your hands, and between your fingers.

When to wash your hands

It is especially important to wash your hands after going to the toilet. Because there are billions of bacteria in the fecal matter you may come into contact with.

Also wash your hands:

  • Before and after eating or cooking
  • after changing baby
  • Before and after touching a sick person or wiping up vomit or body fluids
  • after blowing nose
  • Before and after treatment of cuts and wounds
  • After touching dirt, dirty surfaces or objects
  • After handling pets or livestock
